Yeah, I'm late to the party, I know.
Had a chance to finally catch up with my RSS feeds tonight, and just hit this.

WOW am I glad I did. I can't tell you how many "social media gurus" I've met who run up and hug people when they're in the room, and when they're out of earshot slam them for using certain platforms "incorrectly".

You are right, as always, life and especially "Computer life" is beta. We're the guinea pigs. Just when we think we've made software more intuitive, along comes the trend to be free form. That's just how it works. It starts simple, moves to complex, gets a few band-aids till it's overloaded...then we reinvent what we really need. As consumers we owe it to ourselves to test the limit of each technology, find it's downfalls and search for what we really need. Which by nature is always a moving target. Fortunately or unfortunately it will not change, for change is in our nature.

love this and your "closer" on each of us are individuals and each of us may have a way of doing what we're doing for a different "because". Lots of people ask me if they should be on Twitter and my personal advice to them is to know their "purpose" or "reason"...rather than just setting up an account. Chris...one of the pieces of advice that you gave me a long time ago was to be careful on setting up a lot of separate "phone lines" that you may not be able to answer...great advice. No I don't follow everyone who follows me - No I don't add anyone to LinkedIn that I don't feel comfortable enough reaching out and asking for a favor or a question - No I don't have a clue what FriendFeed is - And no I don't do partial email or RSS posts, I give everything I have in every platform and let consumer decide how to read it....Right or wrong, we are all doing it our own way but the internet is a fantastic playing ground no doubt....!

Sometimes it's about trial and error, and then finding the right path. And sometimes what works for me doesn't work for other people. I learn new stuff almost daily, stuff I thought I was doing the right way.

I'm probably following way too many people on Twitter, and probably on Facebook as well. But I don't want to start unfollowing them, although I see that a lot of other people are doing it.

I especially love it when people complain and yet they don't have anything going on - online or off. It's like us watching the pros play football and shouting "idiot" at the TV. Okay, England deserved it this year, but that's another story. :-)

My theory is that it's ALL trial and error. Even all the self-described experts got there through lots of trial and lots of error. Just gotta hope your successes are bigger than your failures!

A funny, lighthearted post, we ARE doing things by hook or by crook, but basic general common sense rules never hurt anyone, especially those of not using capitals to shout and being courteous as we would be in real life as well as our virtual one. I like reading your posts and follow you on twitter as I find most of what you write useful for what I do. Thanks.
