I agree with starting or ending with a question when writing your posts. That way it won't be a one-way conversation. You'll actually be inviting thoughtful conversations and that's more fun.

Ending every blog post with a question is indeed an excellent way to engage a reader, it helps the reader to re-think the entire post and better evaluate the salient points in the message. In my opinion, challenging a reader in this way will draw more attention to a blog any-day, Anytime.

Loved your post. I also lead with a question to engage people. In some cases I use the word 'you' and 'because' in the first paragraph as effective tools to draw people in. I've heard these are 2 of the most important words to attract attention when you can't use the persons name directly.

Love your tip of ending with a question. Use it most times.

Note that I use the “strong” tag to separate segments throughout the post. There are a few reasons to do that:
It gives your eyes a way to skim.
It breaks up the post.
It rolls into an easy summary.

The biggest thing is making sure to do headlines. I think structure is more important than the actual content itself. Most readers scan with their eyes and don't take the time to dissect the content. They want things quick, fast and easy. These are some really good points=)

This is a great article. I try to do thing similar but I like how you've explained your "First Moves" and your "LeadParagraph". I like to use strong within my paragraphs too to make them even easier to scan. I should use Flickr more too. Good suggestion. I always end up making my own graphics just because I'm one of those guys.

I find your blog posts on the whole, very useful. In fact, you've inspired a number of slides for my "Effective Writing for the Net" workshop I'll be leading in Asia next month. But my big question for you is, "What does it take to as prolific and connected as you are online and still maintain a fulfilling personal life offline? Is there a delineation between the web and the world for you? How do you keep balanced?
