Chris Brogan: What are Some Social Media Marketing Best Practices

  • Kyle Lacy · 1 year ago
    Another great post Chris.
Most important thing in our social media nerd world: Learn how to listen. We all have our egocentric side but when we left it fall... that is when the magic happens. :)

Thanks for Blogging about this Chris. I'm hopeful people will pick-up this challenge, Blog and link. I'd love for this to be a very organic and flowing project... one with legs.

Listening is - without a doubt - an amazing place to start and a great best practice.

Just Do It. (Sorry Nike...my royalty check will be in the mail) I have found that spending a few minutes (30) in the morning and then again in the afternoon is well worth the effort. I am a newbie to Social Media (in the sense of posting, engaging, etc...) and it is paying off. I have leveraged interviews and been able to source great feedback.

One thing for all social media marketers to keep in mind is to make sure that everything links to everything else. You never now where or what of your many social media efforts is going to connect with someone, so make sure that you are giving them the links to go where you want them to go. Make sure your Flickr photos link back to your blog, that your Twitter profile has a link back to your main site, etc.

@Chris: you said: "we tend to rush right into the “speaking” side of the toolbox without giving much thought to the “listening” part." -- Five Tools I Use for Listening

I couldn't agree with you more! BUT, I have to argue that listening is only half the equation :-P

Brands, exceptional brands, take the time to "respond." They take the conversation to a higher level... They engage with their customer and deliver a brand experience beyond the basic product offering...

    Thoughts?
