I love it.
Chris - I figured it was something like that with the missing link.
Tim - I know Baron through Jeff Jones/Uncle Seth. I've been to a couple of the shows. Perhaps you might remember a night in K/W involving lots of drinks and Mr. Sub?

Re: Use These New Media Tools

*SIGH* of course, as soon as we announce our break up, thats when people start saying "Hey, you guys actually are pretty good". heh heh heh

Thanks so much for the kind words guys, it makes the transition from "wannabe rock star" to "former-wannabe-rock-star turns earnest father/husband" much easier.

And this is the first time I can recall kudos for my blog. So, thanks there too!

Char, have we met? I'm SO sorry I don't remember if we have...

I'm also on facebook, as is my wife. You can look us up...

Tim

Re: Use These New Media Tools

I also suggest the use of a bookmark posting/sharing service like Delicious or Magnolia (which I prefer). These allow you to not only decentralize you fave links but discover what other people are linking to as well.

Re: Use These New Media Tools

This is terrific, Chris. For those who are feeling overwhelmed with all the options, there's always group blogging, like we do over at GNM Parents, which builds community even faster!

Re: Use These New Media Tools

Technical mistake on missing the band name, Char. I had it there, but busted the HTML by missing a quote mark after the myspace address. :( Thanks!

I haven't tried Facebook, but I hear lots of good things about it. I might consider it, except I have 3,427 other sites to update. : )

Re: Use These New Media Tools

I agree with Char -- I actually don't use RSS at all, except for one or two videoblogs I subscribe to in iTunes (egad). Everything else, I do manually. I'm not sure if it's more personal or just more easily differentiated in my head, but I enjoy seeing each element in its native environment, rather than strained through mine.

One tool you might want to include in your toolbox is a wiki. Sites like PBWiki make it extremely easy to host a publicly-editable website where everyone can join the conversation -- a la Wikipedia.

Oh, and it's interesting you mention this topic today, as we in Pittsburgh have just announced BootCamp PGH, a one-day, "bare basics" introduction to new media for the folks who feel PodCamp is speaking just a little over their heads. Never blogged or podcasted before but think you could (or should)? Attend our free one-day event and get the answers you need to get started!

Re: Use These New Media Tools

Oh, also, unlike Myspace, Facebook has a news feed so you can see what your friends are up to. :)

Re: Use These New Media Tools

You missed the name of Tim Knight's band: +nurse. But they only have one show left, then they are breaking up. :(
Also, I really enjoy facebook. It's a great way to find people you've lost track of, you can upload pictures, "notes" (essentially a blog), you can update on your status (somewhat twitter-esque only less of a conversation thing) and gives some biographical info and you can join groups and post for events and "share" things like videos and links and stuff. I never got into the whole myspace thing and now I realise it's because facebook is what myspace should have been. The only thing they're missing is music.
I know that I should use an RSS reader, but I kinda like going to people's sites. It feels more personal somehow. It does make things a wee bit more timeconsuming though.
