And I think it has something to do with the fact that in Web 2.0 land, you don't get places by being pushy or by selling. You get places by contributing. All the people who are well-known or "famous" got there by creating great stuff and having their audience, their consumers build their reputation through word of mouth. It reminds me of the some of the communities of artists that produced the greats of art, literature and music in years and centuries past.<br>And I think it may be the fact that it's mostly unmonetized that fosters such a friendly and supportive community. People do it because they love it. Once money enters the picture in a big way, things might change.
