Chris Brogan: The Big Push

  • Seafarer · 4 months ago
Hey folks - to fix the "Trust Agents" widget, take a look at the code. There are too many sets of quotation marks; remove the extra ones and the code should display properly for you.
  • maxOz · 4 months ago
    Hey Seafarer,

Ta for you help, however do not know which quotation marks to remove, please assist.
Maybe you would re-write both codes for those who wish to post on their sites / blogs,

Thanks you again for your support,

    Cheers

    Chris,

Since we met at the first PodCamp Boston, you (and Julien) have been nothing but helpful and available. Day in and day out you provide value to me personally and the general community. I already pre-ordered a bunch of books, but I'm going to order more right now. It's the least I can do.

Good luck with the book sales... I'm hopeful this Blog post (and all of the other activities) pushes this right to the top of the "best-sellers list."

Let's bumrush this book up the charts!

I'm with you Mitch, "let's bumrush this book up the charts!"
  • Nibila Round · 4 months ago
Is this book about becoming "Priceline" because that's apparently how you, yourself, buy.
  • jeffpulver · 4 months ago
Congrats on your book. I am confident Trust Agents will be one of the books we look back to that helped define the era of Social Media.
  • Bill Cammack · 4 months ago
Congrats to you and Julien!!! :D

  • NancyPreston · 4 months ago
you can pre-oder on amazon.co.uk. looks like 3 Sept availability
  • startabuzz · 4 months ago
Holy cats, Chris Brogan! Would that I could be one of those 200-copy-buying people! :) In lieu of that, I'm eagerly anticipating my delivery from Amazon (you're already down to 766). And, quite frankly, I'll stomp my feet and light a match for you (and Julien), not only because it's going to be a damned fine book, but also, that's what friends do.

I wish you guys nothing but the greatest of successes! Amazon & BN aren't going to know what hit them. ;)
  • Sheamus · 4 months ago
Congrats on the book Chris. Very much looking forward to reading it.

  • christopherbarger · 4 months ago
Chris - I've appreciated your counsel. I've learned from your writing. Most of all, I've enjoyed getting to know you enough to call you my friend. To be a trust agent, one must earn trust. You've earned mine.

Congratulations on the book, and I'll be ordering mine this evening.
  • John Haydon · 4 months ago
    Done and done. :-)
  • tommyvallier · 4 months ago
I certainly can't afford it right now, but I'll tweet it and blog it... AND I'll totally call every book store that isn't long distance and ask if they have it in stock.

AND, I'll head into Chapters and Indigo (Other Canadians - listen up) and tell them I would have bought it if it was in-store. Here's how:
    1. Go to the store and find the little lookup terminal thing
    2. Look up Trust Agents
    3. If it's NOT ins stock, there's a little button that asks if you would have considered purchasing if it WAS in stock - click it. This data is used to help skew orders.

You can find out which stores don't have it from the Chapters/Indigo website. :)

Congrats again on the book, Chris & Julien - it's on my Christmas list with fingers crossed. :)

Watching with interest as we see what the redemption rate on social currency is - how trust and reputation converts to sales, in real time. Your numbers will be a profoundly useful guide to determining just how much of a commitment people are willing to make in exchange for the value you've already given.
  • ChrisCavs · 4 months ago
Good luck Chris. Since you asked nicely, i'll do what i can to help. I actually want to read the book anyway.

I'm wondering, Chris, about the 768 figure--how did you arrive at that as the magic number?

OH My Goodness you literary whore!! BTW I received the following message from Amazon at 4:01 am EDT

    Greetings from Amazon.com.
We thought you'd like to know that we shipped your items, and that this completes your order. Your order is being shipped and cannot be changed by you or by our customer service department.

    Happy Monday Chris,
I'm in and so happy that I can actually do something to help you, as I benefit from your wisdom daily. I will do the following:
    - tweet about the book
    - comment about it on all of my other social profiles: fb, linkedin, my meetup groups and I will blog about it.
    - And every time I'm near a book store this week I will go in that book store and ask about the book.
I appreciate all that you are doing and am more than happy to help out in these small ways!
    Thanks again, enjoy your day!

Can explain why now and why 768 copies?

You're ahead of me in publishing and I'm interested in the behind the scenes.

    Thanks!

  • Justin Parks · 4 months ago
I would guess that's what left of the 1st edition and it needs to sell out to ensure a reprint (but im guessing, Chris can probably clarify).
  • Justin Parks · 4 months ago
More than willing to support you Chris and am certainly interested in buying and reading the book. My copies ordered and winging its way to Spain as we speak.

If you don't make your target, I'm giving up on social media and applying to McDonalds because any faith I have in social media and community will be completely and utterly destroyed. Will actively tweet your links as well this week and do my best to help.

  • susanpayton · 4 months ago
Done. All you have to do is ask, Chris. I know you hate self promotion but you should know by now that your audience believes in you.

Why do you have to sell 768? is that the number you set up for a social experiment or will they flog you if you don't sell that??
  • edcabellon · 4 months ago
Chris, even though we've never met in person, I feel like we have through others who recommended you and your Tweets. I've ordered your book and am eagerly awaiting its arrival. Keep up the great work and look forward to seeing more of your projects! Be well and best wishes!

Chris, I just hopped over to Amazon.com to see what the Kindle price on the book is, and I discovered that it's not yet available on the Kindle. I've only been reading your blog for about a month, so you may have delved into the Kindle discussion before, but I was wondering if--and when--you plan to make the book available in that format. Thanks!

  • Brian Mead · 4 months ago
I will be buying the book regardless, but one word of advice... When asking us to spend money to buy your book, at least give us a few lines about WHY we should buy it (not because it's a favor, but because we'll learn X, understand Y, etc).

Good luck and I can't wait to read it!
  • Chris Brogan · 4 months ago
    Hi Brian--

I can write really good copy like anyone. I wrote a personal request because that's exactly the point. The point is that I'm asking for a favor and not for a sale. It ENDS in a sale, but the favor is that you buy it.

If you go to http://www.trustagent.com , you'll see reasons why you think it's useful.

    Chris,

I've enjoyed your website for a long time, and when I saw this post I went over to Amazon and made the purchase. I'm building a class right now for law students about things they don't learn in law school, and one segment deals with establishing and building trust. I will be in touch, if possible, to speak more with you about this. In the meantime, I look forward to a good read. If the book is like your website, I'm sure I'll be satisfied with my purchase

After receiving great free advice on your blog for more than a year I am happy to support you in this small way. Really, $16.47 (the Amazon price) is a bit of a joke when I consider all the value I have received from your blog. Be interested to see how this social media experiment goes. My guess is you will have met your number before the end of today. Keep up the great work.

  • Chris Brogan · 4 months ago
It's a sales goal. Somewhere close to 1000 all landed within 1 week. Because of the bulk orders, I knew we could move the needle with some individual pickups. It's all voodoo. That's what I've learned.

    Chris,

Since I first came across your blog and since we first met, you've been nothing but helpful. Taking time out of your day to deliver new content to the masses, respond to an email or two for me here and there, answer a question or offer words of advice, respond to a tweet or private DM... You give and you give...

I want you to know that I appreciate you for each and every one of those moments and that I appreciate your contribution here. Congratulations to both you and Julien and just so you know, you definitely have a supporter here! I'll be purchasing a few copies and am very much looking forward to reading it!

but chris, no direct link to any purchase sites on the blog post itself? that had to be intentional -- but i don't understand the reasoning....i'm gonna go get a copy at amazon, but for my two cents a couple of live purchase links on this post might go a long way!

Chris I'm proud to buy your new book. You are one of the few voices that I consider to be authentic and indispensable. I've learned a ton from you and I'm recommending your book via Twitter and Facebook.

Question - Could you recommend one other book on new media/social media? I'm looking for something you consider a must read. I just finished Groundswell and I need to add 1 more book to my cart. Thanks in advance and please keep up the great work.

I bought mine by pre-ordering weeks ago and have now read half. It's worth the $. No, I'm not related, don't know them and they darn sure don't know me. I really like them and the book. can someone point me to an actual review of the book prior to my buying it? I don't know Chris Brogan and I am not ready to buy based on a bunch of RTs.
Who has read it? Who got advanced copies and has reviewed it honestly, anyone?

    Hello Allyn,
Good comment, I am an instructor living in Vancouver and have done a fair amount of research on the subject. I have been following Chris's blog posts and if they were to be amalgamated would make excellent texts in themselves. So be assured that this is an outstanding investment.

Retweeted and off to Amazon to buy -- sounds like a great book!
  • Ben Pieratt · 4 months ago
Unsure how I got to this page (followed a tweet, maybe?), but the book seems interesting. My issue is that after clicking and reading through three different dedicated links, I still don't see a decent summary or sales pitch. Just sales pushes. I suspect you would benefit from adding a description to any of your sales materials.

As someone who knows nothing of you or your work, that you hadn't considered this as necessary honestly leaves me a bit skeptical of your ability to advise on social media, and less likely to buy the book (though I probably will anyway.)
  • Tyler Adams · 4 months ago
Ben, if you're unsure of Chris' ability to advise on social media, let me refer you to the 100 or so folks who have commented on this post supporting him :)

    Chris,

I contacted you on Twitter and you said you would hold the 2/4/10 date for me as long as I send you a receipt with this weeks date on it. Are you okay with being a keynote speaker for our KC/IABC Business Communicators Summit (expecting 250+) instead of consulting our organization as you stated in your special offer? If so, I'll purchase the books today and see you in February! Please let me know. Thanks!

Can't wait to read Trust Agents Chris. I've learned so much from your blog and you've been so kind, that I'm buying 11 and giving 10 away on Twitter tomorrow!

I'd love to hear everyone's suggestions to create the max Twitter buzz for the "TA Giveaway"

    -How would you tweet it?
-What should the criteria to win one be?

    Chris,

I just wanted to congratulate you on the new book and say I'm planning on picking up a copy sometime in the near future from Amazon.

    Best of luck!

Bought mine from London (from your link to bookdepository) hope it's not too late! Your 50 ways to use Social Media is very helpful... and I'm sure your book will be a great asset too, so it's not much to 'helping' you but learning from you :)

Good thing you didn't tell all the little Trust Agent soldiers to smooch a rattlesnake. Emergency rooms would be full.

Chris and Julien, Congrats to both of you. Not only did I order the books - surprisingly they have already been delivered :)

I loved the "Trust Agents" talk at SOBCon and I am sure all of us will totally enjoy the book.

    Here's to all the success!

    Best,

I am a new author and I would like to get your review of my new fantasy book. It has just been released on Amazon and Barnes & Nobles.

Synopsis: On their way home from baseball tryouts, Brad Colby and his two sons are involved in a terrible car accident that leaves six-year-old Pete in a coma. When Pete awakens, the family is crushed to learn that he is paralyzed.

Meanwhile, Pete’s eight-year-old brother, Jason, has been having powerful dreams that lead him to a mysterious realm known as DreamWorld. Jason discovers that all of his desires can come true in DreamWorld, but the time is fast approaching when he will have to choose between his two worlds.

And when more devastating news strikes at the heart of the Colby family, Jason and Pete set out on a desperate attempt to find the Gateway to DreamWorld and save their family. With time running out on their dangerous path, will Jason and Pete’s fear of the Unknown keep them from reaching the paradise of their dreams?

Sounds great, except that I don't read much fantasy, nor do I review it. You might try BooksontheNightstand.com , who do such reviews.

I am a regular reader of your blog and as soon as my amazon coupon gets here, I will buy a copy! Wish you good luck to sell the remaining 768 books (but why not 745?)!
