This is what I would expect from a man of Good Taste ! Something Tasty !
  • Joe Mescher · 11 months ago
    What a cool post!

I just bought the Thesis theme on 'Black Friday' when it was 20% off (thanks Chris Pearson!) and installed it on my 3 sites.

No time to customize them yet like you've done Chris, but I am studying up!

Congrats on the new design, looks great, love the energy! Going to have to check out Thesis for my next project.
  • Susan @pinkolivefamily · 11 months ago
Very clean & simple Chris. Definitely like the new look. :)
  • Jim · 11 months ago
Thesis is great. I bought a developers license and have three new client sites coming out with modded Thesis themes. The support, flexibility and code are all awesome.
  • David Stobs-Stobart · 11 months ago
Looks good; clear and easy to read. Well done. Will take a closer look.
  • bloggingmom67 · 11 months ago
    Looks great!!
  • Jim · 11 months ago
Hey, just a thought, but maybe Chris Pearson could post a tutorial using your site as the model?
  • Morgan Mandel · 11 months ago
Very nice, but unfortunately it's too late in the game for me to change from Blogger.

    Hi Chris,

I've been considering a changeover to Thesis as well. Any thoughts on viewer culture shock when they see a new design and their comfy old site is gone?

    Cheers

  • pavlicko · 11 months ago
I like the new look, What did you say the wordpress theme was again? :)
  • iFroggy · 11 months ago
    Congrats. :) Looks good.
  • Rufus · 11 months ago
    Very clean... I want one...
  • Brandon Chesnutt · 11 months ago
Really like the new look. Very simple and the text really seems to pop.
  • Steve Kloyda · 11 months ago
I love the look and feel. Nice colors! I also am enjoying the font size. There are too many sites in which the font is way too hard to read.
  • Lisa · 11 months ago
    Hi Chris,

I love how clean, simple and easy to navigate the new site is. That said, I miss the color scheme that you used in the old design. Those colors were more inviting. These colors seem sort of sterile or something. Either way, it's your content that really matters, and this does make accessing it better. Overall, great new design!
  • chrisbrogan · 11 months ago
@Tumblemoose - you know, that's a really great question. Does changing the theme really mix up the UI? Sometimes. Definitely. One really great but VERY custom theme is Mitch Joel's theme at Six Pixels of Separation. When you go to comment, it's a little different than you originally perceive.

I have to think about how one might transition. My first answer is just a simple blog post.
  • Richard · 11 months ago
Great looking theme, Chris. Quite a personal brand you've developed! Great work.
  • Amani Channel · 11 months ago
It's a very clean design. I like it.
  • Donna Tocci · 11 months ago
Congrats. Looks great, Chris. Makes me want to jump in the fray again....
  • Sonia Simone · 11 months ago
Lookin' good! When I moved off of Typepad, I went with Thesis and had the mighty Men with Pens customize it for me. I love how it turned out, really shows the visual flexibiity of Thesis. http://www.remarkable-communication.com.
  • Tumblemoose · 11 months ago
    Hi Chris,

    I went to Six Pixels...

That is one Ka-Pow! comment section. Very cool.

I imagine a simple blog post alerting the readership to the upcoming change would be pretty effective. I was thinking wouldn't it be cool if there was an ap that could sense a returning visitor and the first time they come to the newly designed site they saw the old design initially and then the page morphed/transitioned into the new design.

Wish I knew something about computers... ;-)

    Cheers

    George
  • Adam Covati · 11 months ago
I've been looking to change my theme for a while at http://adamcovati.com, it's just far too dark.

Thesis is pretty amazing, their typography choices really do make the site easier to read. Kudos to them.
  • Kfred85 · 11 months ago
It looks really nice Chris! I am very impressed. Thanks for the heads up to the rss readers to come visit. I'm glad I came.
  • billfer · 11 months ago
Nice Chris. I made the move to Thesis a couple weeks back on my main blog and love it. It looks so nice out of the box, but customizing is easy too.
  • Loren Nason · 11 months ago
    Thesis Rocks!

Love how Chris modified this theme for you. The thesis support forums are also great and makes it easy to learn how to setup your own site with thesis.

The site linked to my name is also running thesis. Come take a look.
  • brandonacox · 11 months ago
Excellent design - I love how you can hardly recognize Thesis when it is customized well - as in how your site and Copyblogger look very little like each other, but the functionality is there - awesome stuff!
  • Sarah Vela · 11 months ago
really nice, Chris. I think the banner is a great improvement over the old site as well.
  • Jamie Simmerman · 11 months ago
I bought Thesis, and have it stored for a project coming up in Jan. I can't wait to get into it. I love the new look! It's good to hear it really is as easy to use as I have heard, thanks for sharing.
  • Dave · 11 months ago
    Chris,

Grats on the new site - looks great.

Any thoughts from you, or any other commenter, on Thesis versus iThemes Flex as far as which offer the most, and easiest, user customization?
  • Kevin Muldoon · 11 months ago
New design is looking good. Nice job :)
  • @ahg3 (Arthur Germain) · 11 months ago
    Chris,
Very clean -- easy to read. But you need to have your graphics resized to fit the new theme (you're stretching them where they don't want to go right now;)

Do you know how easy/difficult it is to port from blogger to a Wordpress Theme?

    ahg3
  • Jeunelle · 11 months ago
WOW very informative and something I'll be willing to try.
Thanks for the cool post on Thesis.
  • Shefaly · 11 months ago
I am on Thesis too although a friend tweaked it for me :-( I need to learn to do it myself.

I am told my blog looks clean, approachable and professional and is easy on the eye with the more-white-than-write.
  • Mark Hodder · 11 months ago
I just finished two customizations based off the great Thesis framework, few IE issues to work out but I am very impressed with the flexibility thus far!

Wow! Congrats Chris^2, another great looking Thesis implementation.
  • Dave Kinsella · 11 months ago
    Hi Chris,
The new design is definitely easy on the eye. Nice work.
I'm currently using SimpleBalance 2.0 whilst I work on a skin for Sandbox. Thesis does seem to be a great choice for those that don't want to spend ages tinkering under the hood. For me though, I'm using WordPress theme hacking to learn PHP ;)
  • Trevor Wolfe · 11 months ago
Even the comments section looks crisp and friendly. Congrats on the new outfit Chris.
  • Charley · 11 months ago
I'm loving the thesis theme. I'm a newb to the whole wordpress thing, but was able to trick my site out holiday style. Check it out, www.crossdrivenradio.com
  • Mike Russell · 11 months ago
Nice. Your previous theme, "Premium," by WP Remix was no slouch either, especially with Snowy Day's beautiful customization.

Chris, what specific *functional* (as opposed to design or visual) considerations led you to choose the Thesis theme? TIA for sharing with us.
  • Jason Jeong · 11 months ago
great clean look, may have to jump on it after your execution!
  • Andrea Hill (afhill) · 11 months ago
I just purchased the thesis theme this weekend! I've ported my running blog Go the Distance over and noticed some immediate improvements - the rotating images on the right have increased traffic deeper into the site! Awesome!

Now I have the exciting task of porting my more content-heavy site over. For some reason, that task is a bit daunting, because I think it really could use some overall rebranding.

The idea of being able to play with thesis and customize it makes it a fun project, however!
  • Owen Marcus · 11 months ago
I created several sites using Thesis. I am looking forward to Chris’ magazine theme.
  • johnhaydon · 11 months ago
    Chris,

    Two more things about thesis:
1 - The DIYThemes forum rocks. Rick, Jen, Kristarella, PhoenixGuy and IndianGuru are very helpful.
2 - Thesis 1.3.2 has hooks, which means that anyone (even Grandma) can create awesome looking blogs.

    John
  • Rob · 11 months ago
I gotta say...I liked the look of your other site. I think Thesis has a nice look and all, but thought your site had a unique look, particularly the banner and I liked the fonts on posts.
Meg is using Thesis on a project for me, so I understand the hoopla...I just liked the look of your previous site better.
  • Rick Itzkowich · 11 months ago
Chris, I love the clean look of the site. I recently took advantage of your generous offer and purchased Thesis as well. The investment made me more committed to my blogging. Thanks for all you do.

  • Rob Shore · 11 months ago
Have not yet dug into the hooks functionality in Thesis 1.3.2. This is from the original release: http://www.shorespeak.com/blog. Note that I only know enough about code to be extremely dangerous and break things! I am a Thesis fan and affiliate.

    Site looks great Chris.
  • Jeff · 11 months ago
Love the new look of the site, Chris.

I'm using one of Chris Pearson's themes myself, and I keep wanting to take the plunge and move to Thesis based on all the positive buzz it's getting. Maybe for Christmas, I'll treat myself.
  • faryl · 11 months ago
LOVE the site, Chris! The colors feel refined, yet cozy. I have to admit, I checked out the site yesterday to see the new design and was thinking it was quite subtle! ;-)

Does having a new design feel like getting a new car or moving into a new place? I feel like I'd keep going to my home page just to look at it!

(btw I covet thesis! I can't wait to get my hands on a copy and try to merge my current design with it!!!)
  • Scott Jones · 11 months ago
I love the design, very clear and readable. Sure makes it easy when you can hire the theme's designer to do those customizations, huh?
  • Nico · 11 months ago
Nice design! The sidebar is very clean and well organized. I wouldn't expect anything less from someone of the caliber of Chris Pearson.

Although I have to say, the last design was pretty nice too ;)
  • Mike · 11 months ago
It is pretty. It's very simple, clean and organized. I wish I could have won a copy.
  • Scott Purdie · 11 months ago
I have been playing with the older themes Chris released, they are really neat and tidy. I really like seeing simple clean sites and web apps. This makes its easy to find what you need which helps readers. Great move.
  • Dan Thornton · 11 months ago
Yep, really nice design....tempting me to make the investment now.....
  • Ryan · 11 months ago
I'm jealous of your nav bar. That's the one thing that is giving me the most troubles. Maybe Chris can elaborate on how he did that. I also love the email/rss/twitter box at the top--I think I'll do something like that soon.

My site is at Oktober5.com, and I just released a plugin specifically for Thesis users that creates a visual recent posts section with thumbnails, title and excerpt (if you want).
  • Claire Giordano · 11 months ago
Looks really good. I just purchased Thesis for my blog remodel the other day. Now I just have to do the finish work and back up my blog, upgrade Wordpress, install Thesis, and redesign the logo and banner art. Soon soon.
  • Richard Reeve · 11 months ago
I dove into Thesis based on your advice back in September and there has been no looking back. I couldn't be happier. Thesis rocks!
  • April Tara · 11 months ago
I really like the new look. I'm going to end up buying a developer's license for Thesis because I've been so impressed with what I've seen on a few blogs that are currently using it.
  • Colin Clark · 11 months ago
Looks great Chris! I might have to consider using Thesis for a couple of web projects I have coming up.
  • Bryan Person · 11 months ago
From a visual perspective, I also liked the old design that Nico built. Bolder, livelier colors in comparison to this design. On the other hand, if this theme gives you better results on the SEO front, that's probably reason enough to make the switch.

Are there other behind-the-scenes benefits to using the Thesis theme? Maybe Chris Pearson can chime in on this front. I'm on the lookout for a good theme for an upcoming work project, so I'm all ears ... or, uhm, eyes!

And as a guy who reads you almost exclusively in Google Reader, I personally won't fret either way over your design choice! I read you because the content is good.

Looks awesome, Chris. I just bought Thesis for my blog too. Just love it!

Ooh, pretty. Very clean, and I like that it's lighter than the previous design. Looking forward to reading in this new theme :)
  • Dragos Roua · 11 months ago
    That's good news, congrats!

I've been running on thesis for almost 2 months now and I'm over satisfied with it. Flexible yet simple.
  • Debbie · 11 months ago
I like the look and feel of your new design. However, what I like BEST OF ALL is the larger type. I don't want to show my age but ...I hate to squint! :)
  • Jodith · 11 months ago
I have to admit, it is a very pretty site. Someday when I have more money then I have now, I'm going to get a premium theme. I don't like to pay someone to customize for me, though, because doing it myself is how I'm teaching myself CSS *laughs*. I learn by doing.
  • Daniel J. Pritchett · 11 months ago
    Chris,

I love the new look and its' making me want to try Thesis myself. My only complaint is that your site's favicon is outdated and ought to be brought in line with the new color scheme.

    Keep up the good work!
  • Daniel J. Pritchett · 11 months ago
Ouch, my last comment should've said "it's", not "its'". How embarassing.
  • Amy Lenzo · 11 months ago
    Beautiful!
  • J.J. Toothman · 11 months ago
Thesis is definitely on my list of themes I want to tinker around with.

So I've been off the net for about a week or so and just noticed the new site design today... My initial thought was "what the?!?" I liked the old one ya know! It was the Chris Brogan that I know. But after looking through and diggin' around (the comments section, and seeing how things are tidied up on the sidebar, I'm starting to like it.

As far as lay-out, I think it really works and connects (the fonts are great!...especially on the "Contact Me" page which I think is particularly important for you since you set sail on your new pirate ship "New Marketing Labs." Not that people wouldn't contact you otherwise, I'm just saying it's crisp, stands out and makes it easy for people to want to contact you). The cool lay-out of the comments section makes it cool for us (your readers) to see who else is hanging around and sharing in all that you dish out.

Anyway, enough rambling...just wanted to tell you that I dig it!
  • Teresa Wu · 11 months ago
I normally read your blog through RSS — just checked it out and I love the way he's tweaked the theme. There's a lot of interactivity yet it's still very clean.

I've been a big fan of the Thesis theme after seeing it on various blogs. If only the college student budget would allow for it. :)
  • Ari Herzog · 11 months ago
Congrats, Chris, for taking the leap into Thesis.

I migrated ariwriter.com from Blogger to Wordpress in early October; and upgraded to the Thesis theme the first week of November. There were many reasons why, namely wanting a minimalist theme without hacking the code and using a gazillion plugins and something that was SEO-friendly and neat. I followed the advice and inspiration of Justin Levy of primecutsblog.com, Writer Dad Sean Platt, and Phoenix Real Estate Guy Jay Thompson, all of whose blogs previously used Thesis.

Granted, I don't have Chris Pearson or other developers help me. My blog is a product of my sweat and tears, and every visitor, reader, and commenter has mentioned they enjoy the clean and bold feel of the blog and how my personality shines through. Thesis makes my personality all the more crisper.

If you run across any questions, Chris, let me know.
  • Tribute Bands · 11 months ago
    Hi Chris

This post is very timely. I registered 2 new domains names recently and I want to create them using Wordpress. I've been searching around for a couple of eye-catching Wordpress optimised themes.

These are the sites I have narrowed it down to:
    www.revolutiontwo.com
    www.solostream.com

The Wordpress themes on these sites look really impressive. I now have another choice...THESIS! - these look great too!

Also, Jeff Johnson from www.undergroundtraininglab.com sent me an email last week inviting me to download a free SEO Wordpress theme that he's created. It never expires, I can use it on as many sites as I like and it's mine to keep. Apparently it's a search engine magnet.

I've got some serious thinking to do.

Have a Great Day and Thank You for always providing great information.

Love it! We've been dressing in Thesis, too, since early September. I customized our header, dropped the stock rotating images, and made our blog title "live" using the help of the forums and the tutorials, all in a day. Without. One. Bit. Of. Experience. Ever!

Looking at your rss and other icons up top makes me want to do more! I love the font you've selected and the background color in the sidebars adds just the right touch with your background - very handsome!
  • Jennifer Smith · 11 months ago
I love the new site! The Thesis site needs to see what others are doing with their own theme, they're dark contrast is hard to look at!
    Good work!
  • Bryan Person · 11 months ago
OK, checking in on the site proper a couple of more times. It really is a crisp, readable font.
  • Lindsay · 11 months ago
I am glad you blogged about this - I follow along by rss feed an email and I wouldn't have checked out the new theme if you didn't write this post. The theme looks awesome and it is great to hear an endorsement for a paid theme.
  • Cynthia · 11 months ago
Great theme, but not really something that would suit my site's purpose, which is an online magazine.
  • Peter Efland · 11 months ago
Great post Chris. Have long been looking at the Thesis theme. You post is one in a row pushing me closer towards taking the jump.
  • Sonny Gill · 11 months ago
I'm just glad you stuck to your word and made your header clickable ;)

Looks great though. CP definitely does some great work.
  • David H. · 11 months ago
    It does, indeed, look great.
  • Susan KN @pinkolivefamily · 11 months ago
OK.. you sold me on this Wordpress thesis theme... and after reading ur post again (btw - copyblogger site is great as well & love his content) ~ now I have no choice but to go with this vs. typepad which I was considering earlier (few recruiters suggested that I should consider that to start my blog). Anyways, long story short.. this inspires me so I will go ahead with it :) and looking forward to it.. I may need some help with customizing etc.. but I'll figure it out somehow ~ so thx Chris. (p.s. how else am I going to get on ur rockstar list LOL) - it will be exciting to start one beginning of '09. So thanks! Best always, Susan KN
  • Mike Smith · 11 months ago
    I LOVE IT!

I personally love the links in the footer. Nice touch.
  • Ryan · 11 months ago
Cynthia -- If an online magazine is your thing, DIYThemes will soon release a new version of Thesis with magazine-style homepage replacement. I've also created a plugin that gives some of that "magazine" functionality like post thumbnails and excerpts much like you have on your site currently.
  • Lance · 11 months ago
i just updated my site to the Thesis theme over the Thanksgiving weekend (much funner that fighting the crowds at all the stores!!). And, I'm loving the new design.

Yours looks great here, Chris - nicely done!!
  • Franklin Bishop · 11 months ago
Could I use your old theme? I loved it!
  • Bill Petro · 11 months ago
I too have moved to Thesis. I have a number of friends who had it on their site so I bought a developers license for use across my 5 blog sites. Initially, I've only converted my primary blog "History of the Holidays" at www.billpetro.com.

Take a look and tell me what you think.

P.S. I'd be MOST interested in learning how you added a "top" sidebar above your two right sidebars, and a "bottom" sidebar at the very foot. Tips?

    -Bill
  • Derek · 11 months ago
I've come close to buying the Thesis theme so many times and am now kicking myself for not taking advantage of the Black Friday discount. The redesign looks great.

But dang, the Thesis affiliate link to word count ratio in this post is insane, lol.
  • SE7EN · 11 months ago
Sweet! I just bought thesis with discount on thanksgiving. but it will take me some time to customize it away of default look.
  • Cynthia · 11 months ago
Ryan - I know this is really late, but thanks for the info!
