Keeping the Blogging Fires Burning - Great advice here. It's all to easy to get burnt out or to start strong and slowly either lose motivation or let other things crowd out your allotted blogging time.

If you are a beginner than the best tool on the net as of right now is Posterous.com. You simply send an email to these guys and they will turn it into a blog post. No login/signup etc needed to start. Off course you will need to login later if you want to edit etc...but as far as posting it s as simple as sending an email. If you send pictures by email, they will turn it into a post/picture gallery. Simply said, GREAT.

Hi Chris,
I have read many "how to.." articles on making blogs effective, attractive and all kinds of stuff. But yours is ba far the most comprehensive, the simplest and the most informative of all.
I thank you for that.

Hi Chris,
Great tips - should be an e-book! :) I especially liked the tips on Blog Design as I am refreshing my blog right now. Not sure if I can incorporate all your suggestions given my platform but there are some good tips in there.
One thing I can suggest for a future tip -- I know you mentioned platforms don't really matter but for a complete non-techie beginner it would be helpful to understand the pros and cons with going with a particular platform. I realize there are others out there who may have written about Typepad vs Wordpress vs Blogger but it would be good to get your take on it.

One of the best thought out posts on things to help a beginning blogger as well as someone with experience. I will be watching for future posts as I think anyone knows that the hardest thing about blogging, is getting visitors, even harder is visitors interested enough to comment.

I know the tips obviously won't guarantee success -- there's a lot more to it like actual traffic, regular readers, etc. -- but but they will make me a better blogger.... eventually. I blog for fun and that keeps my expectations realistic. Thanks! :-D

ptamaro has the best advice. Blog for fun and enjoy it. If something happens great, if not, so what. Evaluate each step on a site like this. Put each in to work as you have time, but don't rush, and in time, things really do begin to happen.

wonderful post!i Usually, I link to my press releases as well. I guess it helps improve the link flow although Im not very sure. I also link back to related blogs or articles I find on other website. The secret to successful blogging is to offer your audience something short yet interesting every time. Make them read not only your post but also other posts relevant to your current post. I call it organic blogging :)

One of my favorite aspects of Wordpress templates is having the ability to use it over and over again and it's almost impossible to tell it is designed from the same theme.

Thanks for sharing your best tips about blogging. I know that some weeks are easier than others for finding 'good content' for our blog, TheJuice.BlueTangerineSolutions.com, and you've inspired me to 'keep going.' It seems obvious, but your tips to 'show up, deliver value and improve' are a great reminder. Thanks for being such a consistent resource of great information.

Hell yes it can be tough at times. There are days when I'm just not feeling it, but it's that sense of obligation, that duty to my readers, that reminds me that it's not about me. The obligation can feel like a burden until you remember that without that obligation, you'd have no platform. So it is a good sign.
