The Old Value-Cost Conversation
I thought I would pass along another recommendation for those that are looking for a rugged / historical look (tin cloth and bridle leather).
The Filson bags are built tough. I recommend a thin computer sleeve as the old school metal zippers can scratch your laptop on insert and removal. They are still made in Seattle as well!

In the end I went with a Crumpler belly rucksack which has loads of room for all the stuff I need to take me and incorporates a vertical laptop sleeve which sits right against your back and is really comfortable. You've just reminded me again about the Vertigo though - it's so tempting to get one for shorter trips!
but the most over the top thing has getting a personal note written by Gary on the invoice and a followup email from him, not some vague "sales@xxxxx.com address. That personal touch was a ray of bright sunshine in customer feel good.
The only reason I switched ti a Timbuk2 was all the other crap I now have to carry.
