I think it's great. Definately keep up the good work! I run the creative community website Axepose.com which is still 100% funded out of my normal salary (I work in TV at Discovery Channel). I'm totally OK with it cause I love the project and believe in it as never before.

Now, I do need some help to get more traffic and maybe a sponsor on my side. Can you direct me into a good direction regarding this? I know you are busy as @#$% so don't spend too much time on it :)

Kind regards,
Rene Axepose

Re: Life in the Labs

Hey Chris,
Grand stuff you do - thanks for laying it all out like that. If we are paying attention - we could do the same with our businesses. Lay out it all, I mean.
non profit suggestion: what if everytime you shopped 5% of your spending went to support a non-profit you choose? That's one of the things I do - set up non profit funding that is residual. Oh yeah, when your friends and others you refer shop, 5% goes to same non-profit. I can certainly go into further detail - but not in a comment!

so thank you for the explanation of your day -- and it's fun to watch you work on Twitter!

@debworks
Deb

Re: Life in the Labs

So great! I love that watching you work (with running commentary like this) sometimes helps me understand why I'm doing some of what I'm doing. Just wild.

"Ultimately, the more I give away for free, the more time I have to do the more complex work that I really want to do with you. "

Indeed.

The way I figured this out for myself was through thinking about my "backstage" rather than my "lab," but it feels like the two are related. My backstage is here; I think it's unlikely that anyone would ever be all that interested. But I have learned so much from others' sharings (and not always what they thought they were teaching), so I have this sneaking suspicion that SOMEBODY might be interested, someday. And I don't have any reason to post a security detail at the stage door, so...

Re: Life in the Labs

RE: Milan. Seems you also forget to mention....Mayor of your own virtual town on Twitter. ;-)

Also, can't wait to see what you do with non profits, so please do let me know if Train for Humanity can assist at all. Currently working on a post "How to Create & Launch a Non Profit with NO Overhead."

Re: Life in the Labs

That does clarify a bit, thank you! Why do I come here? Mostly because you've been recommended so much, and I want to see what it's all about...and you've got some great insights that I would like to apply to my own business as well. I'm going to be thinking about the concept you described about giving more for free to have more time to devote to the more complex (and desirable!) projects. It seems like a fine line to walk, but I guess the litmus test is, if your time isn't shaping up how you want it to, than you're doing it wrong.

Re: Life in the Labs

Hi Chris,
Where can I get some more information on how to enrol into one of the bootcamp events.
I am based in Silicon Valley.
Kind regards
Kevin

Re: Life in the Labs

I am really glad you made this post. I wondered every now and then what exactly you did while you were not blogginng income wise. You have some nice projects lined up for 2009. If at all possible, I will try and come out to atleast one. Thanks for the great post!

Re: Life in the Labs

If we choose to take place in this social media sphere, we should all try to learn stuff from what we do instead of just interacting without a purpose.

Because the more you learn about what you do, the smarter you get. And the smarter you get, the more authority you have in that space, right. I think it explains a bit the kind of success you have in social media.

Keep doing it Mr. Mad scientist :-)

Re: Life in the Labs

Chris,

Thanks for letting me get to know you better. :) I am always wanting to go to one of your conferences but never can get my boss to pay the expenses. Seriously though...

I think many people choose to visit your page precisely because of the interactions which you offer. I've noticed over the past few months that the conversations which develop on your page, often facilitated by the initial posts, are fantastically insightful for developing the subject. The solutions which both you and your community collaboratively develop are first class. This is often directly attributable to your 'conducive' attitude.

Keep it up, buddy.

TLR

Re: Life in the Labs

what immediately comes to mind after reading this post is: openness, synergy both within broganland and without, value creation for all stakeholders. i particularly like how each broganland estate works with the other two and how they directly interact with their own constituencies as well as indirectly benefit from the interaction with constituencies of the other two. very inspiring.

Re: Life in the Labs

It all makes sense, it all goes together, it all creates hmmm moments, it's all part of the big window that we walk by... it's all a Niche!

Re: Life in the Labs

Chris

You are a thought provoker!

Please look at the Truemanity business model.

Truemanity is a global community interested in self development while supporting social and ecological projects worldwide.

The center of Truemanity is our website: www.truemanity.com in which you will find:
- a unique learning platform for self development
- Donation Center
- Community and networking tools
- Business distribution network

We have been working on content that is empowering and varied ,will be up in March. This is the way for people to monetize themselves by working in collaboration with as many people as possible.

There will be personal profile pages and a lot of other applications that are being worked on.

I see for instance many talented people starting small groups on Ning hoping by doing this is, that in the future they will be able to monetize or find an investor. What has it created...too much of more or less the same.

People have to know how to be part of a team. As a large multi-talented group one can have impact.

In Truemanity we are a dynamic group on the move.

Zee
