Interesting how all the elitists love TweetDeck. I've tried TweetDeck, used it for a while, and find its interface lacking - I feel it's the 'winner by default' because I think it's the only app that allows you to create groups by tweeter (someone please let me know if there is another app that can do that!). Having said that I think TweetDeck can be majorly improved by adding 1) the ability to tile grids on its interface (so that you don't have to do the scroll right to get to your 6++ grids) 2) the ability for quick look up names when setting up groups. (How do you quickly find a name out of your your ten thousands of names when setting up groups? I found it a pain with just a couple hundred names!). I am curious as to how you deal with these problems.

I've also found Tweet Grid useful for doing multiple searches. Power Twitter (Firefox plugin) is DA BOMB, though - it actually enhances the Twitter web interface, for a super duper truly integrated plugin solution. (Plus it adds a SEARCH box right on the page!!)

Re: How I Use Twitter at Volume

@Chris since you seem to be using tweetdeck, you should give twitscoop a try (the little bird icon) - it will enable you to follow the twittersphere as whole, and who knows, maybe find some *more* people to follow and conversations to jump in!

(yes, I am biaised ;-) )

Re: How I Use Twitter at Volume

It's great that you try to answer everyone, but how do you not go crazy. I only follow 40 something users and my Tweetdeck is buzzing non stop. I just have to shut it off.

I do, however, live in Costa Rica and cannot get a dcent mobile device. Maybe it will change then, but when I am in front on the computer I need to work.

I truly enjoy reading what you have to say, along with many others. In fact it helps me to keep up with whats happening much better than RSS.

BTW, I would never unfollow you (well unless you became an idiot). I couldn't imagine who would not want to listen. I think Twitter has become the only way to keep up to date on whatever niche you follow.

I only have one question, isn't it unsafe to be twitting in your car??

Re: How I Use Twitter at Volume

Hello fellow readers,

i have learnt a lot from reading this blog and i have shared my own expereince on using twitter here : http://tinyurl.com/bxfdpk you can read first expereince of someone who are just started using twitter

Amit

Re: How I Use Twitter at Volume

I like Tweetdeck, but don't think I will use it because it uses a minimum of 9% CPU on my MacBook and often bounces between 9% and 17%. That's just too much. Hopefully future updates will get that down.

Twhirl is the same, uses 9%. So for now I continue to use an old, non-ads version of Twitterrific, sadly.

Re: How I Use Twitter at Volume

twitterdeck is a big assistance as I sort through the mind stream of influence which passes over my desk, too, which inspires, thought, change, commerce, prayer, thanks, even just a smile. Hmm. Maybe I should use mobile app's more often, since you stated that {not doing so} takes out 2/3 of the fun of Twitter. ;)

Maybe I'll buy an iPhone sooner. (I already have a Motorola RAZR phone for personal use and a BlackBerry from work). I've been waiting for the hardware upgrade on the iPhone (about a year?). Maybe I'll just go ahead and get one.

I don't buy gadgets just for the sake of "looking cool' or because everyone else has one. I want the best steady-state technology that serves a useful purpose & fits my lifestyle. I'm "patient." I've been an early adopter on the WWW, but not on portable devices. I prefer top shelf HW/SW w/ plenty of encryption, etc.

Again, thanks for your insights Chris. The "I'm human" really encapsulates why I find following you to be a joy. I don't follow any other Web celebs, and not a lot with more than 1,000 followers - because while being human, you are a MACHINE at producing meaningful and helpful content and relationships. Going to explore search more, but not sure I personally can handle more than 200 - the people I like to follow are the top 10% in terms of output, which means a lot even at 200. Rock on, man!

Re: How I Use Twitter at Volume

My life would be easier if I remembered to read your blog every day - but I can't even remember to write mine every day - so instead I'll just make it easier by seeing if I can get Tweetdeck to work for me now.
