I have several complaints with Groupon.
First, I left two messages for someone to contact me regarding possible advertising my company with them and over a year later have still not received a call back. Even if they felt my company was not a good fit, they should have had the courtesy of returning my call poor customer service.
Second, I had to obtain my information from people that I know that did in fact use Groupon to promote their business. The percentage of discount that your business is expected to provide eats away at ALL of your profit margins, not to mention the the percentage Groupon takes to earn its revenue. When all is said and done, it turns out to be a loss for the business owner should the Groupon customer not return to the establishment to purchase without the discount.
Third, these steep discounts to the public "devalue" your brand and tarnish your image. Why should anyone be willing to pay full price at your establishment again when they can get a 50-75% discount.
I personally much rather participate in an organized barter exchange, where my business gets a tremendous amount of exposure for free and I do not have to discount my products - I earn full retail value - no discounts, no coupons. And my trade broker gets me almost everything I need to purchase on trade. Because my profit is built into what I sell, I use that leverage which enables me to basically shop for everything I need at my cost plus their transaction fee which is only 12.5% - a far better deal than Groupon!
I am so glad Groupon never called me back otherwise I would have gone bankrupt by now trying to pay all their fees! If you want info on the trade group I belong to - visit www.tbt-now.com

Really exciting deals, very good execution and they have explored many verticals. Not like most sites providing discounts mostly on food and beauty. They have explored into adventure sports, fashion, fine dining, and learning activities.
They sure are a promising lot.

You guys are doing a great job at Groupon. It's pretty incredible how many of these sites are sprouting up. The low barrier to entry doesn't help the big players in this market. I expect many local radio and tv stations to get in on this promotional model as well. How do you expect to handle those challenges? I've compiled a comparison table to list all these kinds of sites and display the key differences between them all. Let me know if there are any that I missed and if there are any other points of comparison that should be added.

Is credit card information safe with companies like Groupon? Please understand I do not doubt the company but if a disgruntled employee is all it takes to misuse this information.

Seriously, I have been having so much trouble getting in touch with Groupon's Customer Support. Their are other sites out their with better CS. CoupMe.com to me has the best deals and the best support.

Actually, in your example, the spa would book less than $2150 in business. Groupon's fee is 1/2 the rate charged plus 2.5% interest per transaction.
