Chris Brogan: Five Things Meme- It Never Gets Old

  • Richard Reeve · 1 year ago
Thanks for the intro to Dominick. It's interesting to see the patterns of sales experiences in your early days, and sense how you were shaped by them. I spent a few years in newspaper circulation. Perhaps that why I'm so jazzed up on feeds...

I'm with you in that I don't usually go along with the meme or tag thing, Chris, but then I would never have got to know about Dominick (who is now on my "next stop" list). :)

So just goes to show these things DO work!

Funny, I worked at a car showroom for approximately 3 weeks - while it was nice to have a different car to drive home each day, it was less than fun to be a hero one day because I sold a unit, when the next day my parentage was being questioned for selling nothing.

The plus point is that it gave me a great grounding on how NOT to treat my employees. So, again, silver lining - funny how things work out. :)

Thanks for the inspiration. The mention of sales jobs you didn't like got me going too, so I'm tagging others I read and passing along the fun.

See... I had no idea about your indie bookstore connection (how did I not know that?) What store did you work at?

You're welcome to do a guest post on Books on the Nightstand anytime!

Hmm... got me into thinking. Never thought that could be useful. Thought those guys who were doing this were just sending out spam. Thanks for the idea. =)

Your grandfather was a candy salesman???? That might make him the coolest Grandpa EVER.

Dominick is an awesome guy, he and I just started chatting on Twitter recently. He's smart too - this is a really great way to get to know a bunch of new people at once, and to find out some little known facts about others you already do know.

I've been tagged by @barbchamberlain, so I'm off to start my list - problem is, I'm a pretty open book, I'm trying to think of some things that people don't already know (I mean, the stuff I can actually say in public :-)

    Now...who to tag....who to tag....

I'm overwhelmed by your kind words for me Chris. I didn't know if you played the tag meme game, but I had hoped since you are such an interesting and amazing person that you'd share some cool facts about you.

I'm also a bit overwhelmed at all the new people I'm meeting. If I'm slow to respond everyone, please know it's not intentional. I'm not being rude on purpose!

Your grandpa is so cool Chris. My grandpas worked on the railroad and the other was a mailman. My grandfather (the mailman) is now 90 years old. He tells the best stories ever about growing up in the 1920s and 30s. I can imagine how much fun you had with your Grandpa.

Also, Batman is my favorite, too! How do you feel about the Batman movies that have been made?

I never sold anything, but I did once work at a survey center. I didn't want to be on the beer surveys because they were unsolicited, but for some darn reason, I always had the most (or one of the top #) survey completions every night. So, they kept putting me on beer survey. The job lasted from May of my senior year until I left for college in September. Then I went back to work there the next summer, but by then, I was sick of beer!

Comics rock. They helped my reading skills for sure. I suck at selling things in general but I'm good at selling on things I'm passionate about. Probably like you it's not about the selling, it's about sharing the passion.

Making me want to do another 5 things. :)

I had a Saturn. It was a lemon. I'm letting everyone know.

The book job sounds like a lot of fun, the water purification and car jobs sound like hell. I can see how that kind of background encouraged you to get into what you're doing today, which is obviously something you love.

As far as the superheros go, I've included a link to Helperman - a real life superhero :) Enjoy!
