Chris Brogan: Facebook Apps And Me

This is both the success factor and the turn-off with Facebook isn't it Chris? Inviting your friends to do things with you and seeing what people are up to is great, but as soon as you get over (let's say) 20 friends you start getting tired of the same darn invites over and over again.

The main problem is that for many app writers the invite function is the only way for them to spread their app, so it's completely taken over Facebook. And there are plenty of people who don't think for and instant about who they are sending invites to, but just click away on the button.

Aha! So I am not the only one that hates seeing 25 "Join Speed Racer..." invitations queded at once. I think facebook has some nice features and is a great way to get in touch with old friends.... aside form that, it's a time waste.

Yeah....FB can be a huge time waste...I also know that my comment is blasphemy for social networkers and marketers so I expect to be banned from your blog... and attacked by your army of Vampires or Warewolves.

Chris when I first used Facebook , I made some comment,s about the Site ! I felt it has no real value to the user ! I got a few people angry saying well you are 71 years old, it was not designed for you ! My views were taken as wanting F-book to fail! I didn't mean that I meant ,that business has no heart it exists for profit and I saw no profit model for the advertiser if they used F-book ! I still don't ! If I have time I Twitter, I read you Scoble Rubel Mobasoft and others on the Micro Blog ! I get in touch with friends with Gmail, they get it after I write it and don't have to sign in !

I really kind of hate Facebook but feel like I'm stuck with it, because so many others use it. But I resent that I have to log into the damn thing instead of just picking up an RSS feed of updates from it. It's kind of a chore, but some local business & tech groups use it to announce events, so, I live with it. I'd be happy to see everybody abandon it, though, unless they decide to make themselves more open to the rest of the world.

All the applications, write on the wall, etc. stuff - I just can't be bothered.

I have caught up with old friends with Facebook, and find it great... however, I am having to now ask them not to invite me to 25 different apps every day.

Its great to see what friends are doing .. the photos and events are what make it important to me.

I just can't do business with it, and have cut off all work colleagues to a seperate FB page with just them on! Come on FB create some decent privacy settings, that I can differentiate the different types of people I know!!!
