Chris Brogan: Death of the Blackberry Pearl

  • kitykity · 2 years ago
Yeah yeah, I'm happy. :) My most recent phone-death story involves a toilet. Maybe today should be "tell about a cell-phone-death in your blog" day, as a tribute to you. ;)

Oh bummer man. Will the N95 work with T-mobile? I like that one too.
  • Nico · 2 years ago
I would love an N95 or something along those lines, but costing almost as much as a new laptop here, it's a no-no. I'm keeping my current ghetto phone until it dies (or until I accidentally take it for a swim...).

My boyfriend just had the same thing happen to his phone, except he was running in after his dog who was about to eat something very dangerous for him, followed by a 5yr old and an 8yr old. Bummer. I would love to have the Nokia N95, good choice :) enjoy your new phone!

good luck man. once a week I have a run in with someone who has introduced their phone to water. let us know what you settle on.

When I worked for T-Mobile, I heard the accidental toilet drop story a few times. The fact is that a toilet is the only body of water most of us see in our daily lives. Rescuing 5 yr olds is not so common. Another cause of wet phones is rain. I get insurance on expensive phones only.

Just posted my phone story to my blog...

Another thought is that a funny title for this post would have been "Curse of the Blackberry Pearl" considering the recent movie and all...

Phones are much easier to replace than 5 year olds you know?

    :o)

I am loving my iPhone which replaced the Motorola flip phone (aka TOILET PHONE) which I got after my husband dropped it in the toilet (plain water, thank you.) It was then dunked in alchohol and left to dry and was fine, but he still got the Razr.

I got the last laugh with the iPhone. Which I love. I don't have to chase 5-year olds, but I did take the phone to the beach. http://modadimagno.blogspot.com/2007/07/iprotot...

awwww... I wanted you to test the curve. That's the one I want to get.

hey, I have a request for help from some americans. Yes, us Canadians sometimes make requests of the Americans.

I want to get a US based cell phone. I know they will work up here, I have friends that do this. The US packages are MUCH better and the phones are better. We still have to plug in to solar panels at night because they turn off the power after 6 PM here in Canada.

anyway, I'd like to know which is the BEST carrier to use and why? I want to be able to use my phone EVERYWHERE in the world. I have a blackberry right now.. the little entry level one and my carrier does not work in Europe or Africa. Found that out last fall. I dont want that to happen again.

I'd like global coverage. I want lots of mins. I want free text messaging and NO DROPPED calls. That's about it.

which carrier is best? Chris? Help?

Just wondering, what made you decide on another Blackberry Pearl instead of the Nokia?

Asking because I need to shop for a mobile web device myself soon.

Cost and ability to type on a QWERTY keyboard. I think the N95 is SEXY, and I love it more than the iPhone, but I need a keyboard as a lot of what I do is online and type-driven.

I'd have gotten another Pearl too. I love my phone! (although I'm planning on getting an iPhone next year)

My son went swimming with his for about 5 minutes. Stuck in front of dehumidifier for a couple of days then in sun to see if condensation appeared. It did, so back in front of dehumidifier for a couple of days then into the sun, until all condensation disappeared. Phone works fine now.

    Chris,

Sorry about the phone...one of mine (samsung) went swimming (bathtub not toilet) and it survived after a quick scoop out and either toster oven or HOT phoenix car..... (i forget) the display was a little funny though.

I'm glad to see you not jumping ship on the blackberry Pearl. Do you tried Iotum, I Dl'ed it but haven't "got it" yet...

Just wait until they make a pearl w/ Wifi, then you can use tmobile's hotspot@home service to make 'free' wifi calls. http://theonlyphoneyouneed.com/

    later,

I hate what happened to your Pearl but love the story. Glad you got a new one, I think I might get one as a second phone. You and Leah talked so highly of it I may consider it. Only problem is that the internet access on the Blackberry is a different package than the Dash. Dilemma.

I merely checked a message while in the shower....phone was on top of toilet tank and I pressed button....must've gotten a lil bit of water on it......Saw the message....got out of the shower......phone is not working. Ughz. I'll try airing it out......and praying!

another victim here. just killed my beloved blackberry pearl. am sorry dear didn't mean to drop you in the toilet. I tried my best to grab you asap, despite the fact that the kids were still in the pool...thats how much you mean to me. I also feel like a dummy for canceling your life insurance just weeks ago.
My precious Pearl may your soul rest in peace.
