I can relate. I've never seen it worse than at CES in Las Vegas, where pretty much everyone in town is a heavy web user that week.
By the way, if you're having issues with Flickr uploader (sounds like it from your post) try juploader. I don't know why, but it works a LOT better than Flickr's own uploader from hotel rooms, in my experience.
