You will get due credit for what you have done for social media communities-- while still deflecting that credit to other worthy parties and bring other members of the community up with you.

You will still be where you are-- work, home, PodCamp-- but you will have made them all different and better places with your energy and attitude--

You will conduct further experiments with facial hair. Some successful, some frightening.

Your additional blog posts (47 more by next February) about car troubles will shame Jeff Pulver into giving you a raise to buy a new one. Alas, you are not old enough for a midlife crisis car.

I see you traveling with an entourage...on your own tour bus of course...plastered with all those crazy pics you take and your name embedded in LED blinky lights either sided.
When the bus stops it will be swarmed by all your fans screaming your name and pulling out their hair as you descend wearing a black leather shirt, blinged out sun glasses, and a pair of black and red rock star boots...no pants....'cause a man of your importance simply can not be bothered with pants.

I think you will be doing the same type of work you are doing now, only on a much larger scale, to a much larger audience. I see you as the go-to guy for all things new media. Look for Chris writing books, touring with his books, making shows, and appearing on shows (mainstream and otherwise) as the preeminent expert on new media and the online community.

Oh, and you'll be paid huge sums of money to do all of that too. No more lemony Saturns for you, my friend! :-)

I'm out of my depth looking at your professional accomplishments and trying to make projections based on them. I just don't know the industry well enough to do that.

I will throw this out there: "What if..." you dusted off your fiction writing skills and started writing/producing an Internet TV show or three?

Considering you've essentially helped create a culture where there was none a year ago, it's impossible to predict where this culture will lead you -- or where you'll lead the culture.

My best guess? You'll be:

- Doing something you're even MORE passionate about than what you're doing today,

- Working with some people you already know and some who aren't even on your radar now,

- Uniting strangers toward a common goal in a manner that disrupts their safety zones in a positive way, and

- You'll be far more content and healthy, both physically and emotionally, considering all the uncertainty you've been tackling this past year.

Onward and upward.

Chris,

I believe you will (between now and THEN):
* tap and enhance the energy of others to make some really cools stuff.
* Encourage others to really be social (person to person) and use that interaction to create (you are doing this now).
* Learn about how people really interact, entertain, and enjoy.

So THEN ( April 11th, 2008), you will have:
* A pool of talented people on which to tap for a BHAG project you (with others) will launch.
* You will have the talent where by people will come together without you having to "bring" them there.
* You will have the kicked some Big Media butt in some very unexpected ways.
* And, I think, you will be one year older... :)

In a year, I expect you'll be:
Smiling more, and gritting your teeth less;
Working with even smarter people than you already are, even if it's only because of you that they're smarter;
Sharing more ideas, more of which will work than this year;
Find out if this is really what you're passionate about, or if you're just passionate about it because it's the new new thing;
Sharing it all here, so we can see how right, or wrong, we all were.

Here's to another amazing year for you Chris. I look forward to seeing what the next 12 months bring for all of us.

My guess is that where you are in twelve months is going to be so totally different that it will make this *past* year look static.

But I am very sure you will still be using technology tools to enable people to connect. And, I think, you will be teaching others how to do what you do. Like a "develop the developer" guru.

Maybe the differences will not be fundamental, but simply a new color of icing.

Chris, I would write about book about the principles of what you write about. It would be a business book on new attitudes on how you do business, grow new markets, and treat people like....people.
