Chris Brogan: Alltop of My Game

Ego, I knew that would be the most if anything discussed category, but if I didn't see you on that page I would immediately ask Guy, why not?

You're saying what needs to be said, you're providing value, you're sincere, I could go on...but Alltop is a boost to your Ego, sometimes, as in this case, it's a good thing. :)

Alltop seems to be a pretty blatant ripoff of one of my favorite aggregation sites, popurls. Except that it has categories.

Anyway, congrats on your selection! I wouldn't take the "Ego" label too personally! :)

I like the layout, not sure it would be of use to me, unless I could customize a similar page to read sites I want to read, maybe with suggestions for content based on what the AllTop aggregator is spewing forth.

I have something like that. Actually, several somethings like that.

They're tabs in netvibes, where I can happily follow @gaping void and @scobleizer without being swamped.
@shawnz may be on the way there too.

Everyone I've shown netvibes likes it; am I just behind the curve?

Five women is five more than most sites would have included. Send me suggestions for more if you have them. Ann Coulter doesn't have an RSS feed. :-)

PS: As far as being a rip off of popurls, read the About Alltop section.

I like this a lot, never having been a big fan of Google Reader. Agree that it would be nice to be able to customize. I also have a weird pet peeve about the persistent colored bar at the bottom of each page. Cool, though. Thanks for the link.

    Clever title Chris.

Yesterday I interviewed Guy about Alltop and the Egos category.

    http://www.valleyzen.com/2008/02/08/alltop-all-...

It was a lively conversation spanning Alltop and Zen, its clean Apple aesthetics, Guy's goals and concerns about the site.

Great point that the Egos list needs more women! :)

In case I seemed disrespectful or otherwise unkind, I should state officially that I'm happy to have been selected and on the list. I'm also not slamming the choice of who's there. I pointed out the lack of women as a prompt that maybe Alltop could find some great women bloggers for the mix, too.

Any project that Guy Kawasaki attaches himself to will always be of interest to me. I like the way his mind works, so Guy, don't think I was slamming you. I find it an interesting thing, and probably a great bridging tool to people not yet using readers.

I don't find the site to have a lot of value for me since, like Steve Ellwood, I'm already using Netvibes to accomplish this.

I do like that Guy put himself in the Egos section. A least your in good company, Chris.

Chris, always a pleasure to read your posts. This is basically my first reply at your site and just wanted to say thanks for the link. Netvibes is kind of a iGoogle on steroids for me and it's nice to see something cleaner like Alltop (which I'll be trying side by side with popurls -- thanks Mike!). Thanks again and great things for you in 2008!
